Passion is the Catalyst for “Actions Most Ridiculous“
“Actions Most Ridiculous“ by local playwrights Sven Salumaa and Marianne Regan, had its world premiere last weekend for three packed performances at the Coronado Playhouse. The romantic comedy meets rock and roll musical was directed by Lizzie Mander and starred Sven Salumaa, Anya Tuerk, Brian Terry, Michael Casey and the band, Double Indemnity with Jackson Patrick, Meliesa McDonnell, Gordon Costa and Billy Wear.
Passion was the catalyst for all actions most ridiculous and was a major factor in the success of this exciting performance. For example, passion was the inspiration for local playwright, Sven Salumaa, who wrote the music and lyrics for the production’s spirited rock and roll songs more than ten years ago, during his own whirlwind relationship, that proved to be an action most ridiculous. With co-writer
Marianne Regan, he developed the play based on the songs he wrote and used the lyrics as the characters’ alter egos.
In the storyline, passion motivates Rob, a young office worker to question his “comfortable” relationship with his girlfriend. Rob’s action most ridiculous is pursuing an improbable long-distance relationship with Beth, a girl he meets at a health club.
Passion was the vision of the Coronado Playhouse to develop their first Local Playwright Showcase; they plan to make this showcase part of their line up every year. Originally the production was to be a staged reading with a recording of Salumaa’s songs. After a couple meetings with ideas flying, the passion and commitment of producers Katy Skyrud and Lizzie Mander brought Actions Most Ridiculous to life as a fast-paced, professionally-acted performance with an outstanding live band.
Most importantly, passion for direction was the action most ridiculous that led Lizzie Mander to take
such a raw script and turn out such a great show in record time!
According to Mander, “Actions Most Ridiculous was a ridiculous success! It was a lot of hard work but we exceeded all expectations and had three full performances!” Skyrud adds, “Thanks to Lizzie’s directional vision and the fabulous group of talented people involved, it was a sure hit. Our first LP
Showcase was a triumph, we entertained many, and the playwrights experience priceless! We hope to give it another longer run in 2011.”
